I like Friedrich Becker¡¯s work in engineering. His work is not only produced by hand but also through a process of using diverse machines and equipment, such as the lathe or milling machine. In addition, his ¡®engineering¡¯ way of thinking makes his craftwork very special. I am attracted to his work as I majored in industrial design as an undergraduate. I experienced working with many materials including metal, glass and clay, as well as with studies on how machines work and how to develop them into designs. My experiences were reflected in the unique artistic characteristics in my metalwork. With this, I focused on experimenting how to include a kinetic factor, based on mechanical research, into jewelry in my graduate program in Korea. As a result, I learned that artistic perspectives could be included in metalwork as it diversifies the expression of methods, materials and processing. My artwork until today can be defined as the process of experimenting with such a realization.
